जॉर्ज ऑरवेल की 1984 न जाने कितनी बार पढ़ी है। हर बार एक डरावनी कल्पना की तरह लगी, लेकिन अब महसूस होता है कि वह "कल्पना" धीरे-धीरे हकीकत बन गई है। तब लगता था कि ऐसा समाज सिर्फ किताबों में होता है — असल दुनिया में लोग विरोध करेंगे, आवाज उठाएँगे। लेकिन आज मैं कह सकता हूँ कि हम उस 1984 वाले समाज में पहुँच चुके हैं। फर्क बस इतना है कि अब हम खुद को उसके अनुरूप ढाल चुके हैं — जैसे इंसान नहीं, एक झुंड में तब्दील होते जानवर हों। भेड़-बकरी की तरह जी रहे हैं हम। रोजमर्रा के कामों में खोए हुए, चुपचाप। अगर झुंड से कोई कम हो जाए — किसी हादसे में, किसी हमले में — तो बाकियों पर कोई असर नहीं पड़ता। मानो कुछ हुआ ही न हो। यही हमारी सच्चाई बन गई है। सोचने की शक्ति खो चुके हैं। सवाल पूछना, विरोध करना, इंसानियत दिखाना — सब पीछे छूट गया है। आज हमारे ही देश में कुछ लोग छुट्टियों या दर्शन के लिए निकलते हैं — उन्हें पहचानकर गोलियाँ मारी जाती हैं। हम नहीं पूछते कि हमलावर देश में घुसे कैसे? उनके पास हथियार आए कहाँ से? हमारी सुरक्षा व्यवस्था सो रही थी क्या? अब तक वे पकड़े क्यों नहीं गए? उन्हे...

“आर्डर आर्डर”, कहते हुए जज ने चिड़िया से पूछा, “तुम्हारा वकील कौन है?”  “जी माई बाप, वकील करने की मेरी हैसियत नहीं है। इसलिए मैं खुद ही अपनी फरियाद रखना चाहती हूँ।“  “तुम चाहो तो कोर्ट तुम्हें एक वकील दे सकता है।“ “नहीं जज साहब, मुझे ऐसे वकील पर भरोसा नहीं होगा जो बिना किसी स्वार्थ के मेरे लिए मुकदमा लड़ेगा। ऐसा वकील ने यदि दूसरी तरफ से पैसे लेकर केस कमजोर कर दिया, तो मैं कहीं की नहीं रहूँगी।“ चिड़िया ने दृढ़ स्वर में कहा।  “तुम्हारे इस बेतुके इल्जाम पर मैं तुम्हें कोर्ट की अवमानना करने की सज़ा दे सकता हूँ, इसलिए मेरी कोर्ट में ऐसे बेहूदा इल्जाम लगाने से पहले सोच लेना। इसे अपनी पहली और आखिरी चेतावनी समझो।“ जज ने झल्लाए हुए शब्दों में कहा। शायद उसे चिड़िया की बात चुभ गई थी।  “जज साहब, जिस फरियाद को लेकर मैं यहाँ आई हूँ, वह सरकारी कर्मचारियों की लापरवाही और भ्रष्टाचार की वजह से हुआ है। इसलिए आप जिसे कोर्ट की अवमानना समझ रहे है, वह मेरे लिए सरकारी तंत्र पर अविश्वास है। यदि आप भी न्याय की जगह मुझे सज़ा देना चाहते है, तो दे दीजिए, पर मेरा अविश्वास फिर भ...

कुछ महीनों पूर्व मैं एक बंगला फिल्म “राजकाहिनी” देखने गया था। फिल्म बहुत अच्छी थी, और अब हिन्दी में भी बन रही है। मेरी ओर से सबको हिन्दी वाली फिल्म देखने की सलाह है। पर यह पोस्ट उस फिल्म या उसकी कहानी से संबन्धित नहीं है। उस फिल्म के अंत में हमारे राष्ट्र गान “जन गण मन” का असली बंगला गीत दिखाया गया है। जन गण मन को पहले बंगला में ही लिखा गया था। सिनेमा हाल में जब यह गाना शुरू हुआ, तब किसी को इसके जन गण मन होने का एहसास नहीं था। दरअसल यह गाना “जन गण मन” से शुरू नहीं होता है। दूसरी पंक्ति आते आते लोगों को पता चलने लगा, और असल राष्ट्र गान ना होते हुए भी लोग एक एक करके खड़े होने लगे। फिल्म का अंत बहुत दुखद और चौका देने वाला है। इसलिए गीत को पहचानने में थोड़ी देर लगी, पर 3-4 पंक्तियाँ होते होते सभी खड़े हो चुके थे। मैं खुद भी खड़ा हुआ था। तब सूप्रीम कोर्ट का कानून भी नहीं था और यह असल राष्ट्र गान भी नहीं था। पर पता नहीं क्यों, अंदर से इच्छा हुई खड़े होने की, और इस गीत को सम्मान देने की। भले ही यह असल राष्ट्र गान ना सही, पर अर्थ तो वही थे। 

Mobile Wallet is in thing today with demonetization and PayTM has gained the most acceptance from the cash crunch situation. There are other wallet services in the market, but for some reason, PayTM acceptance is much more than any other. Maybe that happened because they had inside information, or they have used our PM for promotion, I don’t know that. But this post is not about how they got so much acceptance. In fact, I am thankful that they got such wide acceptance as it helped me to go on with my life since demonetization without much of hassle. I have been using PayTM to pay for my Uber ride, for small purchases done at grocery or stationary store; I have even used it once in Pune for Tea on a small roadside vendor as well. I had few incidents which made me realise not to depend on PayTM fully, and this post is all about those incidents. जैसा की सभी जानते है, हमारी सरकार ने 1000 एवं 500 की मुद्रा का विमुद्रीकरण कर दिया है। इस महीने की 9 तारीख से यह दोनों नोट बाज़ार में मान्य नहीं है। बहु प्रचलित मुद्रा होने की वजह से बाज़ार में रुपये की किल्लत हो गयी है एवं लोगों में अफरातफरी का माहौल है। मैं कोई अर्थशास्री नहीं हूँ, इसलिए सरकार के इस निर्णय के दूरगामी परिणामों का विश्लेषण नहीं कर सकता। परंतु आज लोगों की विवशता देख पा रहा हूँ। यह लेख सरकार के निर्णय की सराहना या विवेचना करने के लिए नहीं है, बल्कि आज की स्थिति को कैसे काबू में लाया जाये, इसके बारे में है। मुझे इतने बड़े पैमाने पर आई विपदा को सम्हालने का कोई अनुभव नहीं है, मेरे अपने विचार से आज कि स्थिति को सम्हालने के लिए जो सरकार और हमें करना चाहिए, उसे अपनी छोटी सी समझ के अनुसार यहाँ प्रस्तुत कर रहा हूँ। सरकार में बहुत बड़े विशेषज्ञ बैठे है, परंतु हालत बदतर होते जा रहे है। इसलिए सोचा शायद एक अलग दृष्टिकोण कि जरूरत हो।  सरकार तुरंत इन कदमों को उठाए:

As we know that our government has taken a decision of demonetization of Rs 500 and 1000 notes from market and people are suffering due to cash crunch. I am not an expert economist to comment on long term impact of this decision, but I can see the situation on the ground, with short term impact. This article is not about merit of this decision, but it is about managing the situation in hand. We are in a mess with this implementation, and things are getting out of control. I have tried my best to come up with what the government and public should do to cope up with situation. I am not an expert on managing such large-scale crisis, so this is not a complete formula, but my two cents only.  What government should do:

शायद मेरी देशभक्ति कुछ गलत है, क्योंकि मैं आजकल सोशल मीडिया पर जेएनयू तथा उसके कुछ छात्रों को  फाँसी देने या गोली मार देने या पाकिस्तान भेजने जैसी पोस्ट करने वालों में देशभक्त को नहीं बल्कि देशद्रोही को देख रहा हूँ। उन सभी लोगो से क्षमा चाहते हुए यह लिख रहा हूँ कि मुझे ऐसी धमकी देती हुई पोस्ट ख़ुद हमारे देश के संविधान और कानून का उल्लंघन करती हुई ऐसी लग रही है, जैसे कोई आतंकवादी संगठन अपना वीडियो जारी करता है। 

My social media timeline as well as newspapers and news channels are filled with JNU issue these days. I have kept my silence on this issue so far, and just following the people shouting their lungs out on TV channels and posting hate messages on Social Media against so called Anti-national students and “Anti-national” institute JNU. I was really amused how a small number of student’s rally can tag entire institute Anti-national. There are so many hate posts by some of my friends on social media. There are so many hate speeches by famous news anchors on their prime time. I kept myself out of this issue, not because I cannot form an opinion about it, but because I refuse to blindly follow mob mentality on any issue. In my opinion, real Anti-national is the person who put hate speech or comment against someone without knowing the fact. When we call someone Anti-Indian for not believing in our country and its constitution, it is actually we who are not believing in our constitution ...

समर शेष है, नहीं पाप का भागी केवल व्याघ्र, जो तटस्थ हैं, समय लिखेगा उनका भी अपराध। ना जाने क्यों दिनकर जी की यह कविता आज बहुत याद आ रही हैं। शायद यह कविता अधूरी है। आज सिर्फ़ व्याध नहीं है, बल्कि व्याध के साथ खड़े लोगो का हुजूम भी है, जो उन्हें शाबाशी देता है, और दूसरों को तटस्थ रहने या फिर बहलाने का काम भी करता है। वह स्वयं कुछ नहीं करते, बस व्याघ्र का पक्ष लेकर उन्हें रक्षक घोषित करवाने में मदद करते है। वह ऐसे लोग है, जिन्हे उत्तर प्रदेश की घटना एक दुर्घटना लगती है, और साथ में मीडिया पर इस दुर्घटना को सांप्रदायिक रंग देने का आरोप भी लगाते है। वह ऐसे भी लोग है जो इस आतंकवाद के लिए पीड़ित परिवार को ज़िम्मेवार ठहरा रहे है। मैं अधिक नहीं लिख पाऊँगा, क्योंकि मैं स्वयं तटस्थ वाली श्रेणी में आता हूँ। शायद मुझे आज इस सांप्रदायिकता और धर्मांधता के खिलाफ़ लड़ाई शुरू कर देनी चाहिए। पर मैं ठहरा एक साधारण इंसान, दो वक़्त की रोटी कमा कर अपने और अपने परिवार का पेट पालने वाला, यदि समर में कूद गया, तो मेरे परिवार का क्या होगा! इसी स्वार्थ की वजह से मैं यह अन्याय देखकर भी चुप रह जाता हूँ। यहा...

एक  समय की बात हैं। एक राज्य में विदेश से एक व्यापारी आया। उसने राजा से वहाँ अपना व्यापार करने की अनुमति माँगी। राजा ने अनुमति दे दी एवं कहाँ कि उनके मंत्री इस राज्य में व्यापार करने के नियम बता देंगे। व्यापारी ने मंत्री से मुलाक़ात की एवं सभी नियम समझ लिए। उन नियमों के अलावा मंत्री ने उस व्यापारी को यह भी बता दिया था कि उस राज्य में व्यापार करने पर कुछ खास किस्म के कर देने पड़ेंगे, राजकीय अनुमति हेतु कर, उत्पादक गुणवत्ता जांच में पारित होने हेतु कर एवं सरकारी महकमों की अलग अलग किस्म की जांच से सुरक्षा हेतु कर। यह सभी कर अघोषित थे एवं बिना किसी रसीद के देने पड़ते थे। विदेशी व्यापारी ने सभी शर्तें मंज़र कर अपना व्यापार “निशाले” के नाम से शुरू किया। बहुत जल्दी ही उसका व्यापार चल निकला और लोग उसके बनाए उत्पादों को पसंद करने लगे। फिर वह व्यापारी विदेश से ही अपना यहाँ का व्यापार देखने लगा। यहाँ उसने कुछ अधिकारी नियुक्त कर दिये थे, जो उसके व्यापार की देखभाल करते थे। धीरे धीरे “निशाले” के नए नए उत्पाद बाज़ार में आने लगे, और लोगो में इन उत्पादों की प्रसिद्धि इतनी बढ़ गई ...

  We just had a tragedy in Nepal and some part of India. Thousands of people lost their life and thousands more were injured. There is loss of property worth millions. It really a sad situation and we should pray for those who suffered in recent earthquake. But it’s more saddening that some people are actually trying to take advantage of this tragedy!! When I see post about praising some institute or person, on what they have done for victims, along with some bad language used for specifically targeted religion or groups or people asking what they are doing, it negate on whatever good these institutions or people are doing. If you are doing some good work just to show others and make fun of them, it cannot be called good work. Below is one such example. I praise our Army for reaching out to victims in record time for rescue. Our government is also responsible for this quick action, and they should be praised too, including our PM. But that does not mean some cheap people start...

Today is international Women’s Day, and BBC wanted to launch their new documentary India’s Daughter today all over the world. This documentary is banned by Indian government, but still available at various platforms, and lots of people have seen it. I think the ban is not justified, as it is like banning a mirror which shows our true face. It’s more like few of those discussions we always try to avoid. This documentary brings out the topics which we don’t want to discuss. So, the better way to avoid such discussions is to ban it, and no one will talk about it.  The documentary is not offering anything new to the Indian viewer. We all more or less know these things already. To put everything into context before we discuss this, here is a summary of what is shown in the documentary.

आज चुनाव का दिन है। पिछले कुछ हफ़्तों से कान पक गए है चुनाव प्रचार सुन सुन कर। ढेरों पार्टियाँ और उतने ही ढेर सारी उनके वादे। ऐसा लगता है मानो सभी संकल्प लिए है देश में राम राज्य लाने के लिए। सब अपने को एक दूसरे से अच्छा साबित करने पर तुले है। इस प्रक्रिया में और कुछ हो ना हो, एक दूसरे की पोल जरूर खोल रहे हैं। मुझे आज काम पर भी जाना है। भले ही मैनेजर ने आज वोट देने के लिए थोड़ा देर से आने की अनुमति दे दी है, परंतु मैं भली भाँति जानता हूँ की देर से जाने पर शाम को देर तक बैठना ही पड़ेगा। मुझे वोट देने का कोई शौक नहीं है। परंतु पिछले कुछ दिनों से हमारे मुहल्ले के नौजवानों ने एक मुहिम चलाई थी, जिसके जरिए वो वोट देने के लिए लोगो को समझा रहे थे। पहले तो लगा कि ये किसी पार्टी के लिए प्रचार कर रहे है। आखिरकार आदत नहीं रही किसी को निःस्वार्थ कुछ करते देखने की। परंतु जब उनकी बातें सुनी और आग्रह कर के बैठने पर मजबूर करने के बाद उनका नुक्कड़ नाटक भी देखा तो एहसास हुआ की चुनाव में हिस्सा ना लेकर गलती करूँगा। उन नौजवानों को मैंने मन ही मन धन्यवाद किया और जैसा की उन्होंने समझाया था, किसी पार्...

उम्मीद उनसे करे जो इंसान हो, इंसानियत के दुश्मनों से क्या उम्मीद करना। जिन हाथों ने ख़ुद चमन उजाड़ा है, उन हाथों से शहर बसाने की क्या उम्मीद करना। जो हवा आग की लपटों को और बढ़ाती हो, उस हवा से बादलों को लाने की क्या उम्मीद करना। उम्मीदों पर पानी फेर कर 49 दिनों में भाग लिए, आप पर अब और क्या उम्मीद करना। 10 सालों तक सिर्फ़ उम्मीद दिलाने वालों, अबकी बार हमसे भी न कुछ उम्मीद करना। सांप्रदायिकता भरी नफरत का सौदागर जिसका सरदार हो, उनसे अमन शांति की क्या उम्मीद करना। बंदर बाट जिनका रोज का काम हो, ऐसे तीसरे मोर्चे से भी क्या उम्मीद करना। गर लाना है राम राज्य, सुधारना है अपना समाज, तो दूसरों पर क्या उम्मीद करना। अब जो करना है हमें ख़ुद ही करना है, गर करना है तो ख़ुद से ही उम्मीद करना। - विनय कुमार पाण्डेय - 19 अप्रैल 2014

L K Advani, the leader who once was biggest name, and symbol of BJP, has been sidelined by his own party, to cater to a leader, who according to BJP, will ensure victory in next election.  Advani is a victim here, but not many people see him that way, and it may be projected as he is greedy of his own ambition of becoming Prime Minister of India. We have to understand, that when it was time, when destiny called him to declare himself the leader of World’s largest democracy, in 1995, he himself nominated Atal Behari Vajpayee as party’s PM candidate. He was the preferred choice of the nation at that time, and the party wanted his leadership, like they are now after Narendra Modi. But, his inner voice, discipline, respect for seniority of Atalji, made him defer to Vajpayee, his political senior. At that time, many people told him, that he is throwing away possibly the only shot at the top chair of country. He may not get such chance again, and once Vajpayee becomes PM, Advani...

Desperate times need desperate measures, we need to lock away so called juvenile rapists and killers. He raped her, tortured her, killed her, and he will get away with it due to his age? Such underage monsters should be taken as mentally unstable and unfit for society. This will ensure they will never be able to walk free on road. If we need to bend some rules, let’s do that for the sake of our women and daughters!

Happy Independence Day to all my Indian friends across the world! And there are two different greetings I would like to give, to the two different set of Indians across the globe. Indians living abroad, in developed countries like UK, USA, Singapore etc, enjoy this day, have party, show some patriotism by wearing tri-colour dress, host Indian flag, play some patriotic songs, dance and have a good time today. Indians still forced or choose to stuck here in India, please stay safe, have a quiet time today, and pray to god that the day pass by without any terror attack on our country, basically, be safe today. 

I was in school, and I wrote a small poem in Hindi, on 31st October 1989, 3 years prior to the actual demolition. Those were the days when Ayodhya was main topic, and was every day on the front page of newspapers.  I saw that poem tucked somewhere in my old diary, and thought of sharing this. Its about request from God to all, for not taking the route of violence! But it seems we did not listen to our God, and went ahead with bloodshed of our brothers!

Anna Hazare is everywhere, you open up any newspaper, any news channel, he is there! The shots from news clippings show you that Anna has support of all India! You will see a lot of people on Ramlila ground in his support! Today is 10 th Day of his fast for Jan Lokpal Bill. People all over holding protest march, candle march, shouting slogans like Vande Mataram, Bharat mata Kee Jai! People have cap or T-shirt written all over – I am Anna! So, it’s all Anna fever for the last 10 days, and not sure how many more days it will continue! But I am not Anna! And I do not want to be Anna! I do not support Anna’s movement! Don’t be surprised by this, as my last post was in April, and it was about Anna, whereas I supported him! So, why am I not supporting him now? Because I have my own eyes, my own mind and I can think, I can decide what is right and what is wrong! When he was right, I supported him, but when he is wrong, I am not supporting him, simple! Isn’t it?

Anna is going to break his 5 day fast today! He finally, got the government to agree on Jan Lokpal bill. I am not here to argue if the bill is perfect or as Government was quoting since Anna started his fast, the bill is not correct in its current form. All I know was that there is a draft, and it was side-lined for some time by our politicians. Anna forced them to get it back in limelight, and discuss, fix, implement it. This is what according to me he wanted, and he got it.
