आज सुबह इस बेहद दुखद समाचार के साथ नींद खुली कि श्रीदेवी का देहांत हो गया है। अखबार में अभी यह समाचार नहीं आया है, लेकिन डिजिटल युग में प्रिंट बहुत पीछे रहता है। सबसे पहले तो विश्वास करना मुश्किल था, इसलिए इंटरनेट पर खोज कर देखा। लगभग सभी बड़े अखबारों ने इस खबर को अपने वेब एडीशन पर जगह दी थी। फिर उनके परिवार वालो ने भी इस खबर की पुष्टि कर दी थी। यह सब पढ़ते वक्त दिल में यही कामना थी कि काश यह खबर गलत निकले। पर अनहोनी हो चुकी थी, और श्रीदेवी सिर्फ 54 वर्ष की उम्र में इस फानी दुनिया को छोड़कर जा चुकी थी। श्रीदेवी के बारे में जब सोचता हूँ, तो आंखों के सामने एक अल्हड़ सी, चंचल और बला की हसीन युवती का अक्स छा जाता है। उसकी आँखों में एक शरारत भरी शोखी दिखती है, तो होंठों पर दिल के तारों को झंकार देने वाली मासूम सी खिलखिलाहट सुनाई देती है। हिम्मत वाला, मवाली, तोहफा, मिस्टर इंडिया, चालबाज़, चाँदनी जैसी फिल्मों की वह मासूमियत एवं चंचलता मन को मोह गई थी, और श्रीदेवी की एक अमिट छवि हमारे दिलों में डाल गई थी। पर श्रीदेवी की एक और छवि है, एक शानदार अदाकारा की, जिसे उतना ही पसंद किया गया जितना उनकी ...

Supreme Court has implemented ban on firecrackers in Delhi, by suspending sale of all fireworks before Deewali . This has unleashed ongoing criticism on social media, and many people have started linking this with religious sentiments. I am not going to go into the debate if this decision is right or wrong, as there are equally good arguments from both sides. But I can comment on the way it is implemented, and how this backlash could have been reduced to a larger extent.  I am from Kolkata, and for many years, the government over there has taken few decisions which were correct for the greater good, but not liked by many. As those decisions were taken sensibly, and were not as harsh as this one, so the protest or backlash was also controlled. Some of these decisions were limiting the sale area of fireworks in a controlled and designated place, (now implemented by other states too) stopping people to celebrate Holi on major roads, and let the celebration happened in lanes only...

Jio Feature Phone is launched and everyone is going gaga about it. I also watched the entire presentation, but noticed many discrepancies during the demo. I was surprised when no news item or YouTube channels covering this event were pointing about these obvious manipulative tactics. So, I decided to put this article showing the manipulative launch in detail. I am not going to cover the specs or details around the phone, as by now everyone has covered that already. So, let’s get straight to point, on the demo.

कुछ महीनों पूर्व मैं एक बंगला फिल्म “राजकाहिनी” देखने गया था। फिल्म बहुत अच्छी थी, और अब हिन्दी में भी बन रही है। मेरी ओर से सबको हिन्दी वाली फिल्म देखने की सलाह है। पर यह पोस्ट उस फिल्म या उसकी कहानी से संबन्धित नहीं है। उस फिल्म के अंत में हमारे राष्ट्र गान “जन गण मन” का असली बंगला गीत दिखाया गया है। जन गण मन को पहले बंगला में ही लिखा गया था। सिनेमा हाल में जब यह गाना शुरू हुआ, तब किसी को इसके जन गण मन होने का एहसास नहीं था। दरअसल यह गाना “जन गण मन” से शुरू नहीं होता है। दूसरी पंक्ति आते आते लोगों को पता चलने लगा, और असल राष्ट्र गान ना होते हुए भी लोग एक एक करके खड़े होने लगे। फिल्म का अंत बहुत दुखद और चौका देने वाला है। इसलिए गीत को पहचानने में थोड़ी देर लगी, पर 3-4 पंक्तियाँ होते होते सभी खड़े हो चुके थे। मैं खुद भी खड़ा हुआ था। तब सूप्रीम कोर्ट का कानून भी नहीं था और यह असल राष्ट्र गान भी नहीं था। पर पता नहीं क्यों, अंदर से इच्छा हुई खड़े होने की, और इस गीत को सम्मान देने की। भले ही यह असल राष्ट्र गान ना सही, पर अर्थ तो वही थे। 

दंगल एक बेहतरीन फिल्म है। पूरी कहानी कुश्ती पर आधारित होते हुए भी इमोशन और ड्रामा से भरपूर है। आमिर ने एक बार फिर बाज़ी मार ली है। शायद यह 2016 की सबसे अच्छी फिल्म साबित हो।  बस इससे आगे मैं इस फिल्म की और तारीफ नहीं कर सकता। अब जो लिख रहा हूँ, वह मेरा अपना विचार है, और उसका फिल्म के मनोरंजक और अच्छे होने से कोई सरोकार नहीं है। मुझे फिल्म की कहानी पसंद नहीं आई। लगभग सबको कहानी के बारे में पता है, इसलिए यहाँ जो मैं लिख रहा हूँ, वह कोई भेद नहीं खोलेगा। कहानी में एक लड़की की विपरीत परिस्थितियों से लड़कर विजेता बनने के सफर को दिखाने की कोशिश की गई है। पर जिस नजरिए से मैंने देखा, मुझे यह एक लड़की की अपनी सफलता से अधिक उसका बलिदान दिखा। यह कहानी स्त्री प्रधान ना होकर पुरुष प्रधान निकली। एक व्यक्ति जो खुद अपने जीवन में सफलता ना पा सका, अपनी जिद के चलते अपने दो बच्चों का बचपन और उनकी इच्छाएं उनसे छीन कर, उनके जीवन को कुर्बान कर देता है। उनकी अपनी पहचान खत्म हो जाती है। हर जगह उन्हें अपनी इच्छाओं को मारना पड़ता है। लोगों के उपहास का पात्र बनना पड़ता है। और यह सब सिर्फ इसलिए कि वह अपने पित...

जैसा की सभी जानते है, हमारी सरकार ने 1000 एवं 500 की मुद्रा का विमुद्रीकरण कर दिया है। इस महीने की 9 तारीख से यह दोनों नोट बाज़ार में मान्य नहीं है। बहु प्रचलित मुद्रा होने की वजह से बाज़ार में रुपये की किल्लत हो गयी है एवं लोगों में अफरातफरी का माहौल है। मैं कोई अर्थशास्री नहीं हूँ, इसलिए सरकार के इस निर्णय के दूरगामी परिणामों का विश्लेषण नहीं कर सकता। परंतु आज लोगों की विवशता देख पा रहा हूँ। यह लेख सरकार के निर्णय की सराहना या विवेचना करने के लिए नहीं है, बल्कि आज की स्थिति को कैसे काबू में लाया जाये, इसके बारे में है। मुझे इतने बड़े पैमाने पर आई विपदा को सम्हालने का कोई अनुभव नहीं है, मेरे अपने विचार से आज कि स्थिति को सम्हालने के लिए जो सरकार और हमें करना चाहिए, उसे अपनी छोटी सी समझ के अनुसार यहाँ प्रस्तुत कर रहा हूँ। सरकार में बहुत बड़े विशेषज्ञ बैठे है, परंतु हालत बदतर होते जा रहे है। इसलिए सोचा शायद एक अलग दृष्टिकोण कि जरूरत हो।  सरकार तुरंत इन कदमों को उठाए:

As we know that our government has taken a decision of demonetization of Rs 500 and 1000 notes from market and people are suffering due to cash crunch. I am not an expert economist to comment on long term impact of this decision, but I can see the situation on the ground, with short term impact. This article is not about merit of this decision, but it is about managing the situation in hand. We are in a mess with this implementation, and things are getting out of control. I have tried my best to come up with what the government and public should do to cope up with situation. I am not an expert on managing such large-scale crisis, so this is not a complete formula, but my two cents only.  What government should do:

शायद मेरी देशभक्ति कुछ गलत है, क्योंकि मैं आजकल सोशल मीडिया पर जेएनयू तथा उसके कुछ छात्रों को  फाँसी देने या गोली मार देने या पाकिस्तान भेजने जैसी पोस्ट करने वालों में देशभक्त को नहीं बल्कि देशद्रोही को देख रहा हूँ। उन सभी लोगो से क्षमा चाहते हुए यह लिख रहा हूँ कि मुझे ऐसी धमकी देती हुई पोस्ट ख़ुद हमारे देश के संविधान और कानून का उल्लंघन करती हुई ऐसी लग रही है, जैसे कोई आतंकवादी संगठन अपना वीडियो जारी करता है। 

My social media timeline as well as newspapers and news channels are filled with JNU issue these days. I have kept my silence on this issue so far, and just following the people shouting their lungs out on TV channels and posting hate messages on Social Media against so called Anti-national students and “Anti-national” institute JNU. I was really amused how a small number of student’s rally can tag entire institute Anti-national. There are so many hate posts by some of my friends on social media. There are so many hate speeches by famous news anchors on their prime time. I kept myself out of this issue, not because I cannot form an opinion about it, but because I refuse to blindly follow mob mentality on any issue. In my opinion, real Anti-national is the person who put hate speech or comment against someone without knowing the fact. समर शेष है, नहीं पाप का भागी केवल व्याघ्र, जो तटस्थ हैं, समय लिखेगा उनका भी अपराध। ना जाने क्यों दिनकर जी की यह कविता आज बहुत याद आ रही हैं। शायद यह कविता अधूरी है। आज सिर्फ़ व्याध नहीं है, बल्कि व्याध के साथ खड़े लोगो का हुजूम भी है, जो उन्हें शाबाशी देता है, और दूसरों को तटस्थ रहने या फिर बहलाने का काम भी करता है। वह स्वयं कुछ नहीं करते, बस व्याघ्र का पक्ष लेकर उन्हें रक्षक घोषित करवाने में मदद करते है। वह ऐसे लोग है, जिन्हे उत्तर प्रदेश की घटना एक दुर्घटना लगती है, और साथ में मीडिया पर इस दुर्घटना को सांप्रदायिक रंग देने का आरोप भी लगाते है। वह ऐसे भी लोग है जो इस आतंकवाद के लिए पीड़ित परिवार को ज़िम्मेवार ठहरा रहे है। मैं अधिक नहीं लिख पाऊँगा, क्योंकि मैं स्वयं तटस्थ वाली श्रेणी में आता हूँ। शायद मुझे आज इस सांप्रदायिकता और धर्मांधता के खिलाफ़ लड़ाई शुरू कर देनी चाहिए। पर मैं ठहरा एक साधारण इंसान, दो वक़्त की रोटी कमा कर अपने और अपने परिवार का पेट पालने वाला, यदि समर में कूद गया, तो मेरे परिवार का क्या होगा! इसी स्वार्थ की वजह से मैं यह अन्याय देखकर भी चुप रह जाता हूँ। यहा...

I am in favor of censorship in movies, television and any other medium which is exposed to kids. But the real reason behind that are kids, as they are not mature and we need to decide what they should and should not consume in the name of entertainment. I am not in favor of censorship for adults. Which means my support for censorship is only for ratings, to provide us detail on what to expect, and if that is suitable for kids. If we are mature enough to elect our government, how can the same government decide what we should or should not do? I am not interested in Porn, but I don’t regularly eat Beef as well. That does not mean it should be banned! Because I know, today it is Beef and Porn, tomorrow it would be something which will directly impact me!! I should not wait for that tomorrow to come, and protest now.  I didn’t go out and search for beef in Mumbai, but I am sure I will find it for a premium price.   We just had a tragedy in Nepal and some part of India. Thousands of people lost their life and thousands more were injured. There is loss of property worth millions. It really a sad situation and we should pray for those who suffered in recent earthquake. But it’s more saddening that some people are actually trying to take advantage of this tragedy!! When I see post about praising some institute or person, on what they have done for victims, along with some bad language used for specifically targeted religion or groups or people asking what they are doing, it negate on whatever good these institutions or people are doing. If you are doing some good work just to show others and make fun of them, it cannot be called good work. Below is one such example. I praise our Army for reaching out to victims in record time for rescue. Our government is also responsible for this quick action, and they should be praised too, including our PM. But that does not mean some cheap people start...

Today is international Women’s Day, and BBC wanted to launch their new documentary India’s Daughter today all over the world. This documentary is banned by Indian government, but still available at various platforms, and lots of people have seen it. I think the ban is not justified, as it is like banning a mirror which shows our true face. It’s more like few of those discussions we always try to avoid. This documentary brings out the topics which we don’t want to discuss. So, the better way to avoid such discussions is to ban it, and no one will talk about it.  The documentary is not offering anything new to the Indian viewer. We all more or less know these things already. To put everything into context before we discuss this, here is a summary of what is shown in the documentary.

Do you know about the sudden death of Perumal Murugan, the author? Don’t worry, the Perumal Murugan, teacher is still alive, and will continue to live. But people have killed Perumal Murugan, the Author. This is clearly a major attack on Freedom of Speech, where people have forced the author to commit suicide. It sounds confusing, so let me put some light on him.  Perumal Murugan is / was a Tamil Nadu-based writer, who has ended his writing career by announcing the death of Perumal Murugan, the author. His post, as reported by media (because I was not able to view his profile on Facebook), read, "Author Perumal Murugan is dead. Only the teacher Perumal would be alive. People could have issues with my other books, that's why I've decided to withdraw them all...I shall pay due compensation to publishers..Don't indulge in protests and let me go."

I don't support derogatory cartoons, and last year I was opposing the series made by Aseem Trivedi, which shows our national symbols in a very derogatory way. But I can never support terrorism and killing people! I have problem with lots of people who post loads of rubbish on their wall, say insulting things in newspapers or TV etc. But I don't go out and kill them! I don't support Charlie Hebdo, but I strongly oppose the attack and murders! 

पिछले दिनों मैं शिर्डी होकर आया. मेरे माता पिता यहाँ मुंबई आए हैं. उनको साथ लेकर हम सपरिवार शिर्डी गए थे. कार्यक्रम कुछ ऐसा बनाया की शनिवार सुबह निकालेंगे, रास्ते में नाशिक पड़ता है, वहाँ पर त्र्यंबकेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग के दर्शन कर, आगे शिर्डी जाएँगे. शिर्डी में हमने रात्रि विश्राम करने का सोचा था. फिर सुबह शनि सिग्नापुर होकर वापस मुंबई आने वाले थे. उम्मीद थी की इस तरह से दर्शन भी हो जाएँगे और अधिक भाग दौड़ भी नहीं होगी. 

उम्मीद उनसे करे जो इंसान हो, इंसानियत के दुश्मनों से क्या उम्मीद करना। जिन हाथों ने ख़ुद चमन उजाड़ा है, उन हाथों से शहर बसाने की क्या उम्मीद करना। जो हवा आग की लपटों को और बढ़ाती हो, उस हवा से बादलों को लाने की क्या उम्मीद करना। उम्मीदों पर पानी फेर कर 49 दिनों में भाग लिए, आप पर अब और क्या उम्मीद करना। 10 सालों तक सिर्फ़ उम्मीद दिलाने वालों, अबकी बार हमसे भी न कुछ उम्मीद करना। सांप्रदायिकता भरी नफरत का सौदागर जिसका सरदार हो, उनसे अमन शांति की क्या उम्मीद करना। बंदर बाट जिनका रोज का काम हो, ऐसे तीसरे मोर्चे से भी क्या उम्मीद करना। गर लाना है राम राज्य, सुधारना है अपना समाज, तो दूसरों पर क्या उम्मीद करना। अब जो करना है हमें ख़ुद ही करना है, गर करना है तो ख़ुद से ही उम्मीद करना। - विनय कुमार पाण्डेय - 19 अप्रैल 2014

L K Advani, the leader who once was biggest name, and symbol of BJP, has been sidelined by his own party, to cater to a leader, who according to BJP, will ensure victory in next election.  Advani is a victim here, but not many people see him that way, and it may be projected as he is greedy of his own ambition of becoming Prime Minister of India.
